As per reliable reports, the automaker is also planning to launch a convertible version one year after the launch of its most awaited coupe. This big news comes immediately after the news that the 4C coupe is ahead of schedule and that the new model will be in the market as early as 2014.

“According to the reports, Mauro Pierallini —Fiat’s chief has set very specific guidelines for the 4C and the model had to cost around €45,000 or about $55,330.”

The model which has to be launched in the United States, weighs only 900 kg or 1,984 lbs. Needless to say, the engine of the new and upcoming model is in the middle and it seems that Alfa Romeo is building its own little Lotus Elise.

Coming to its power-trains, the engine of the 4C will be Alfa’s direct-injected internally designated 1750 TBi turbocharged four-pot. The model, which is a coordinate with a lightweight, is expected to cruise along at 100 km/h or 62mph in just 4.5 seconds. Instead of an iron block, the engine’s block will be made of aluminum in order to help achieve the previously mentioned 900kg weight target. Besides, the suspension sub frames will be composed of aluminum and they will be bolted to a carbon fiber tub that houses the power train and drive train. The engine will be coordinated to a dual-clutch automatic complete with paddle shifters.

In conclusion, the body’s shape is also said to be very sleek and consummate with producing a positive down force to help attain high-speed stability. However, the final version will be a perfect one, as per the company authorities. Hence folks, get ready for the two vibrant models from Alfa Romeo.

Acura TL Undergoes Stricter IIHS Frontal Crash Test

Acura TL 2013

The Volvo S60 and Acura TL have asked the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s newest requirements in order to earn Top Safety Pick status; this is because the IIHS added the roof strength test along with tougher frontal crash tests. Now the institute is already looking to make it a lot tougher for vehicles to earn the coveted designation.

What is known as the new small overlap frontal crash test has been designed to simulate what would happen when the front corner of a car rams into another vehicle or object which constitutes the front end of the driver’s side having a five-foot tall strong barrier at 40 mph. The IIHS claims this is the first test of its kind conducted outside of automakers’ proving grounds in the U.S. and Europe. The first round of testing will be done in 11 midsize luxury and premium cars and only three were able to earn good or acceptable ratings.

Cars such as the Acura TL undergoing these tests managed to earn an acceptable rating, while the Acura TSX earned a marginal rating.

The new test was applied after a 2009 IIHS study which revealed that a small overlap crashes accounted for nearly a quarter of frontal accidents that led to serious injuries or fatalities for the front-seat occupants.

Presently the IIHS evaluates front, side, rollover, and rear crashes, with the frontal rating based on a moderate overlap test. The existing criteria will continue till 2013, but vehicles that pass the overlap test with flying colors only will be recognized.
